Advancing Sustainable Consumption and Production in North America Workshop Hosted by the North American Roundtable on Sustainable Production and Consumption (NARSPAC) Tuesday, December 11, 2012 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 12, 2012 8:30 am - 12:00 noon Venue:
UNEP Regional Office of North America This workshop was a sharing and strategy session among stakeholders engaged in advancing sustainable consumption and production (SCP), including US and Canada government representatives, civil society, academia, private sector and international organizations. This meeting was organized by the North American Roundtable on Sustainable Production and Consumption (NARSPAC) in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme – Regional Office for North America (UNEP RONA). It included representatives of the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption (GRF-SPC) from the North American region (see participant list below). The results of the meeting was shared at UNEP RONA’s North American Major Groups and Stakeholders consultation (12-13 December 2012). The goals of this meeting were to: 1. share goals and activities of existing SCP initiatives in North America, 2. discuss opportunities that arise from the United Nation's recent adoption of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and 3. identify strategic areas of collaboration, possible expansion of the network (e.g., to include trade unions, local authorities and other stakeholders), and next steps. A
significant outcome of this workshop was the formation of a Strategic
Working Group on Sustainable Production and Production in North America with
the aim of continued coordination around this issue.
